La Bloom Beauty...Why Having A Mentor Matters

La Bloom Beauty...Why Having A Mentor Matters

La Bloom Beauty creates unique, natural beauty essentials that are made-to-order, cruelty-free and vegan. We interviewed founder Diana Moebius, creator of La Bloom Beauty about her journey to becoming a beauty entrepreneur and what the choices and difficult decisions she had to make in order to realize her dreams. This July we feature her Lash & Brow Serum!

How did La Bloom Beauty come about & what’s behind the name?

I went to school in London, UK and studied Naturopathic Medicine. I have always had a passion for health, nutrition, and herbal medicine. La Bloom Beauty sprouted from my first product, the lash & brow serum. I wanted something to help strengthen, protect, and condition my eyelashes & couldn’t find anything online I liked as they were either full of chemicals, weren’t vegan or had an apalling look.

“There were tons of growth serums, but I was looking for something a little different so I made it myself!”

When thinking of a name for the company, I really liked the definition of Bloom : “a flower, especially one cultivated for its beauty, coming into full beauty or health ; flourishing ; a youthful or healthy glow in a person's complexion”. It has such positive thoughts and meaning around and springtime is my favorite time of the year especially when the flowers start to bloom! We are currently a team of two women, but are looking to expand later this year as we grow.

What did you set out to achieve in the near future?

Our brand mission is to help women obtain beauty essentials that are non-toxic, natural and safe, and to keep creating products that fill gaps within the beauty space. We have a few more products being released over the course of this year that I’m sure a lot of women have been looking for, but maybe not necessarily have been able to find easily. These are our short- and long-term goals and aspirations.

“We look at ourselves as quite a niche brand. We try not to direct ourselves towards products that already saturate the market, but to think outside-the-box in order to create products that are harder to find.”

We love it when we hear feedback like “Wow – I’ve never heard of a product like that!” or “This has been missing in my life!”. We are also made-to-order, so you can be sure that our products were made fresh.

Is there a particular group you’re targeting with these niche products?

All women who want to use products they can feel safe about using! Typically a lot of our customers believe in cruelty-free and vegan beauty and like to buy from small female-run businesses. We make them feel safe with our natural products and can build trust easily as we fully understand their needs.

For instance, we buy from organic local vendors whenever we can. We also look for the highest quality oils that we’re able to find. Making a quality product is what we do and how we are able to attract so many women who value integrity.

How difficult was it to start your own business?

The biggest hurdle of starting La Bloom Beauty and honestly still is, is learning as you go. You make mistakes and then you adjust to make it right. The brand is fairly new and we keep evolving with time.

“I think it is really important to have a mentor in business and someone who you look up to. Mine is Lisa Markel who created Zinc It Over, a sheer sunscreen facial mist that you use over makeup – it’s genius!”

Having someone that can help with guidance in your industry is really important and I hope to be able to do that for someone one day.

Apart from Nourish Beauty Box, where else can our customers meet and test your products?

We are actually just launching our first partnership with a boutique in Ontario, Canada called Gabe and Angel in the next few weeks. They will carry the entire line, and it is the first boutique of many more! Being headquartered in Los Angeles, we will also be making a strong retail push locally.

What’s your key advice for would-be entrepreneurs & what are you most excited about right now?

“Dedication! If you really want something and you work for it, it will happen.”

An example is when NailPro Magazine included our rose hand scrub as one of their top exfoliators in their June issue, and Bold Online Magazine listed our lip scrub in their favorite products in the lip category!

We do have a new product launching in the next few weeks - our CBD Lady Oil. It was made to help alleviate pain, bloating and cramps before and during menstrual cycles, and can also be used for aches and sprains all over the body. It’s made with Organic Arnica oil and a blend of essential oils that contain anti-inflammatory properties, antispasmodic and pain-relieving qualities.
